We are honoured to have Miss Teen Canada’s Top Choice 2017 winner today on NEECEE LEXY for an exclusive feature. She will be discussing her journey and experience as a Beauty Beauty winner.
As you all know, this year's Canada Top Choice GRAND FINALE is taking place at Fairview Library Theatre on August 4th, 2018, from 6pm to 10pm. Make sure to attend the show, as well as meet and greet with Lola as she passes on the crown to the next Queen in line. We are excited to hear more about Kate Briones on her magical crowning moment during the 2017 Grand Finale show.
Without further delay allow me to welcome Miss Kate. Please tell us about yourself?
I’m a 16 year old high school student. After I graduate from high school, I want to become a pediatrician or a child and youth worker because I enjoy working with children/youth. However, my dream career is modelling and being an international beauty queen! I’ve been living in Toronto all my life and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
When did you start getting involved in pageant shows?
Canada’s Top Choice Pageant was actually my very first pageant. In June 2017, Jennifer and others involved with the organization, scouted me while I was out with my family. We were both at the same restaurant and that’s where Jennifer approached me to inform me about the pageant. From there, my pageant experience began. For me, the organization is a family and I’m grateful to be a part of it.
Who inspired you to enter pageant?
My mother inspired me to enter the pageant because she believed that it would be a good way for me to step out of my comfort zone. I was very hesitant to enter this pageant because I have a stuttering problem. This speech impediment often holds me back from pursuing opportunities. However, my mom encouraged me to not let my speech stop me from this amazing opportunity! I’m glad I took my mom’s advice because this experience has opened so many doors for me!
What is your go to fashion tips as a beauty pageant?
One go-to fashion tip is to always bring deodorant. On pageant night, it was very hectic and crazy backstage. I found myself sweating because of how nervous and overwhelmed I was. To avoid sweat stains or odours, it is a good idea to carry deodorant!
What is(are) your favourite (s) pageant experience(s) and why?
One of my favourite pageant experiences was the outdoor photoshoot with the candidates. The pageant was actually a week away from the photoshoot, so it was a good way to just relax and have fun. During the photoshoot, the girls and I really enjoyed each other’s company. We were on the beach, it was a beautiful day, and we all just bonded and kind of forgot about the competition. This was one of my favourite experiences because during rehearsals, I’d be so nervous how I would do that night, but this photoshoot allowed me to let go and enjoy the experience even more. However, my Canada’s Top Choice experience is full of memories that I will never forget!
You’ve recently been crowned as Miss Teen Canada's Top Choice 2017 Beauty Queen!. Congratulation on that. What have you gained the most from these entire experiences?
Thank you so much! It’s crazy that I get to call myself “Miss Teen Canada’s Top Choice 2017”! Throughout my journey as Miss Teen and doing pageant rehearsals, I’ve realized how important it is to get out of your comfort zone for every opportunity you seize. Although it is very overwhelming, it is a beneficial learning experience and it’s a great way to grow as a person. Whatever accomplishment you want, you can achieve it and learn a lot from your experiences.
For a girl who is interested in entering a pageant, what advice will your give her?
The advice that I would give is to go for it! You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. The doubts and fears will fade away throughout your pageant journey. A pageant is a great way to grow and better yourself. It’s your chance to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.
You’ve recently been crowned as Miss Teen Canada's Top Choice 2017, can you tell us about the crowning moment?
Honestly, the night of the pageant did not feel like competition at all. I feel like we were all enjoying the moment. With no pageant experience, I did not think that I was going to win the crown. The crowning moment is something that I will never forget. When I heard my candidate number called out, I was in shock. The whole journey leading up to the pageant was super fun; winning the crown was the cherry on top! As they were putting on the crown, I just couldn’t believe that I was able to win the crown! The amount of cheering I got from my family and friends who attended was unreal. Seeing their smiles made me feel so accomplished. The crowning moment is an unforgettable memory.
August 4th, Canada’s Top Choice will be hosting their annual pageant show. What advice will you give these new contestants to prepare themselves for winning the crown.
The advice that I will give is to enjoy yourself on that stage and stay true to yourself! Of course you’re going to be nervous but always remember that you are doing this for yourself. Focus on yourself and nothing else. Enjoy every moment on the stage because the pageant is going to fly by! Competing with other girls can be intimidating but just remember that you’re beautiful in your own way. Nobody’s perfect! The judges can’t tell if you’re nervous or not when they see you smiling and enjoying the moment. Winner or not, each and every candidate is beautiful inside and out.
Who are other talented designers or stylist you would hope to collaborate with?
I don’t really have any designers in mind. I do love every single look that Zendaya pulls off on every red carpet, so I would love to collaborate with a designer that has worked with Zendaya. Honestly, being styled by Zendaya would be a dream because I look up to her so much and she inspires me in many different ways.
What can we expect from you in the next 2 years or so?
In two years, I will be graduating from high school! Hopefully I get to study social work or medicine. I also hope that I get involved with other pageants and really get into modelling. I want to continue to give back to my community and spread love to those around me!
