In this weekly feature, we had the honour to interview the Rwandan's native Afropop artist Florence Umutoniwase known as Flora. She is a Rwandan born and currently living in Toronto, Canada to pursue her music career as well as studies.

Growing up she has been influenced and always surrounded by music.

Her strong passion for music and dedicated to discovering her own voice. She travelled across the world to Canada in order to make her dream become a reality. We had the privilege to interview Flora about her musical journey.

When did you start singing?

Growing up, Music has always been a part of my life, I started off singing with my family, In school performances, Wedding events and festivals back home in Rwanda.

In the beginning of 2017, I've decided to take my music career serious since I was already in the entertainment industry as a dancer and model. I released my first single promo last October called “ I surrender” featured my label mate GhCALI. He is an artist from Ghana under the label and management of WPP Canada (World Premiere Productions) based in Toronto. Then, later I released my second single which came out with a dashing video called “Fever” currently trending Now on social media.

MUSIC SUCCESS STORY

Congratulation on our success! So who inspired your musical career?

I have always been inspired by artists like Celine dion, Rihanna and Beyonce but my first inspiration for all the time is my father.

What is the inspiration behind your latest single release

My latest single “ Fever” was inspired by love, the feelings you get when you truly love someone and want to spend the rest of your life with him or her.

Especially the ones who decide to take it a step further by getting married for the better or worst.

Music and fashion is like peanut butter & jam. The two go together so well special when it comes to expressing one’s personal style. We know that you are also an established model. Was fashion always your passion? When did you start modeling?.

To be honest fashion wasn’t really my passion when I was young. Fortunately, as time progress and working as model things have changed. I started being serious about my creativity and watching a lot of fashion events plus making different styles on my own by age of 15 years old. Then, I moved to Canada 2012 where I worked with professional photographers. As a results to that, I did some fashion shows in Toronto and I ended up falling in love with it till now.

Who are your favourite designers or fashion stylist you worked with?

I don’t really have any favourite designers, I like to create things on my own and stylist myself.

What can we expect from you in the next 2 years or so?

In 2 years, I believe that my music career will be on another level, I've got an “Ep” coming up soon, shows and collaborations with so many different artists from all over the world.

Who are other talented artists you would hope to collaborate with ?

I would like to collabo with Ty Dolla sign, French Montana, Tiwa Savage Wizkid etc.

I like their music and I feel like our collaboration would be amazing!!!!!!!

This is just the beginning!

Continue to follow Flora as she is fast rising in her musical career
