The name is Benjamin Nketiah, my stage name is Nketia. I am a music producer, songwriter and singer. I have a recording studio in Dansoman a suburb of Accra. Over the years I have worked with artists like Yaw Dela Botri of Hewale sounds, katrine Suwalski a saxophonist and music professor from Denmark, ,Trigmatic, Epixode,Flowking Stone and a lot of upcoming artists.
You have very interesting name, can you tell us about it?
Nketia is my surname (Last Name) I was named after my grandfather Benjamin Nketiah. my father is also Nketiah so it's a family name.
What is the inspiration behind your latest single ? and where do we buy it?
The single “Like a child” has a very deep message for me because I saw a couple of children playing and I realized they never cared about their tribe or where each of them is coming from. No discrimination, no tribalism and no racism. I know it is a huge challenge we are facing as humans so I made it into a song to send the message across the globe.
You can get the song on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and other streaming sites. You can also watch the video on YouTube.
As member of SZ EQUATORIA & G57 ENTERTAINMENT, please provide our readers little info for those who are not familiar with those musical platform that you are part of.
SzEquatoria and G57 entertainment to me are a family lead by Stephen Kujjo (Wad Haj Yousif) and Wolfram Fosu. These guys teamed up to promote artist from Africa to the world and and they signed me to push my music. They also have signed other artists.
You are also producer at such young age, tell us how did you get started your career as producer?
I started the music career professionally after Senior High School. I’ve learned sound engineering from some of the big producers in Ghana, Benverj recording studios and Hubert Kofi-Ant-Ubeatz. I grew up listening to Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff and a lot of great musicians around the world, because my dad and I used to play their songs and sing along every morning to these great legends.. I love music since I was a child. I realized I have got the talent to sing and write so here I am.
Who are your biggest influences in the music right now ?
I love Bob Marley (RIP) , Michael Jackson ,Lumba, Kojo Antwi and sarkodie from Ghana they inspire me to be as high as their level.
For most artiste fashion plays a big part in their artistry. So what is Athena go to fashion tips?
This is what I always tell to myself, it can be said to other people too: Dress the way you want to express your inner self. Don’t chase the most expensive stuff to impress others. Be different but be you. wear things that will make you feel good. after all if you feel good, you will do good in life.
You are talented songwriter, which song(s) have you written is (are) your favorite and why ?
I love every song I have written and recorded but there a few that really stood out. These are Mawani Ndaho, Like a child, and Odo mu fever. The reason is because the stories in them I have experience in life.
What is (are) your most memorable moment (s) as a artist thus far and why?
when I had walk miles to see a producer or a record label so I can show them my CD, tell me to go they will call me and I have to walk back home never did. Also when I had just a computer and be making beats and writing from early morning until the evening with no food to eat and no money on me.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out their music career and hoping to make it in the industry?
My advice is to them: they should never give up, determination is key in this game. Also don't think you are too good, therefore you expect/deserve the help and promotion from everyone you meet, no you need to work hard for yourself and the right people will come in.
What can we expect from you in the next 2 years or so ?
Expect more releases of songs/visuals and performing on stage with some of the big artists in Africa and around the world. Be on the lookout for Nketia World Tour.
Who are other talented singers, songwriters, fashion stylist you would hope to collaborate with?
I am looking forward to work with talented artists and musicians like Pappy Kojo, Joey B, Sarkodie, Wizkid, Juls, Kanye West.
