Dr. Charlene Lawson is a chemist Ph.D. holder from Howard University. In addition, Dr. Charlene is a certified wardrobe stylist, CEO, and founder of Style Chemistry Consulting based in Houston, Texas.

We are thrilled to have her on the NEECEE LEXY blog to discuss her journey as a chemist and certified wardrobe stylist. Not to be biased, but I am a fashion model and a kinesiologist major. I've been super excited to release this interview with Dr. Charlene Lawson.

Please, tell us about yourself in a short intro.

I am a Ph.D. Chemist, Certified Wardrobe Stylist, and Mom of 2 outstanding young men.

WOW! What is the inspiration behind STYLE CHEMISTRY CONSULTING?

I worked in the oil industry, a well-known male-dominated field. Many female colleagues were accomplished and successful but struggled to express themselves outwardly. I revamped a few closets and, indeed, saw the power of Style. They strutted differently and had a new level of confidence! When we look good, we feel good, and when we feel good, we perform better in all areas of our lives! Style can transform and build confidence!

The name came about when I realized that most women struggle to create outfits. I've developed “styling formulas” to help busy, driven women streamline their morning routines and get dressed effortlessly!".

What fashion trends have you noted in your city influence the selection when styling a client?

What are your go-to fashion tips?

Don’t focus on size; focus on how it fits!
Foundation is vital - undergarments are a necessity.

When did you first realize you wanted to pursue a career in the fashion industry?

I’ve loved fashion since I was a little girl. I was voted best dressed in high school and known around campus for my style. I got the courage to pursue my career once I realized that Corporate America was not fulfilling!

Are certain pieces and accessories always in demand in STYLE CHEMISTRY CONSULTING?

Good question, a lot of women struggle to find the perfect jeans and comfortable heels.

Who have been your biggest mentors in the fashion industry, and what is the best advice they have ever given you?

My business coach Sydney Lester of Chic Stripes. The best advice she has given me is to NOT overthink things because it kills the magic.

What advice would you give to someone just starting in their career and hoping to make it as a Fashion Stylist?

Figure out your USP (unique selling proposition).
What sets you apart from everyone else?

These are great advice Dr Chalenee. What can we expect from you in the next 2 years or so from STYLE CHEMISTRY CONSULTING?

To take over Houston as the go-to Stylist :D
I would love to have my own boutique and TV show!

Who are other talented designers, model or artist you would hope to collaborate with?

I would love to collaboration with Talbot Runhof and Olivia Palermo and Rachel Zoe, and Clair Sulmers.
